Title: BitCoin Methods
Post by: -Bish0p- on June 26, 2011, 09:54 pm
I have been actively trying to acquire my first bitcoin for about a month now.  I was about to get it and just before I did on the same day Mt. Gox went down.

So I was just wanting any information I can get on various way to acquire bitcoins (other than Dwolla-MtGox)

I know I'm not the only one having problems so this information could be helpful for anyone new to bitcoin.

1 way is to purchase Liberty Reserve from a LR exchange and then deposit LR to TradeHill.com.
Purchase BTC with LR.  A lot faster than waiting a week on Dwolla.

bank > dwolla > tradehill > wallet > SR

or ebay> btc (but you'll pay twice as much...still, if you're in a hurry)

I think 'slow is good'  keeps 'desire' in check..

I'd get *one* btc however you can get it, even paying the exorbitant ebay rates...then you'll know you have all your blocks set up, and once you've done a transfer or two, you realize it wasn't that hard...just seems weird, at first.

Well I am making progress.  I can transfer the coins TR > SR (or any other merchant) but every time I try to send some to my personal wallet they just disappear.  Weird

depending on what you are using it can take an hour of more
try playing with https://instawallet.org (CAUTION CLEAR WEB) to get the hang of things. You can transfer small amounts pretty, well, instantly. Larger transfers require 2 or 3 confirmations.

@redrocket most people will not give you bitcoin by credit card because credit is reversible and bitcoin are not.
